Toddler bath robes are an often-overlooked lingerie undergarment that can make bathtime and swimtime considerably easier on parents and caregivers.

These favorite pint-sized terry cloth robes are a great idea for a wiggly toddler who doesn’t want to stand still while being dried off.

After a cursory towel-off, the toddler can be wrapped in one of these luxury robes while the terrycloth soaks up any extra moisture from the skin and hair.

Similar to popular womens robe styles, toddler robes are made from thick, soft terrycloth that is very absorbent.

Terrycloth is resistant to stains and holds up very well under frequent machine washing. As with womens robes dark colors are a very wise choice since these colors do a much better job of hiding stains than their lighter counterparts.

While white is the overall favorite that most are familiar with, black, brown, and red are popular wrap robe choices, as are patterns and prints featuring characters from popular children’s television shows. Darker colors and patterns tend to hide the dirt, while white shows everything; an important consideration with children.

Apart from terrycloth, toddler bath robes are also frequently made in flannel and cotton.

Flannel sleepwear and robes are extremely warm and soft against the skin; if it starts to pill, run a fabric shaver or piece of duct tape over the pills and they will disappear. Cotton robes are a great choice for very humid climates; however, it is not as absorbent as terrycloth, which is the hands-down most popular fabric choice.

Parents and caregivers must take care that toddler bath robes are not too long for their children.

Active toddlers may easily trip, fall, and injure themselves in boys robes and girls robes that drag on the floor.

Many parents consider intentionally purchasing a robe that is too long so that their child will “grow into it.”

However, this leaves the child open for spills, bumps, and cuts; it’s much wiser to purchase toddler robes that fit properly.

Kids Robes & Cover-Ups

As she or he grows, the robe will eventually become a calf-length robe with ¾ sleeves.

Eventually this robe may be passed on to younger siblings or given to charity when it no longer fits.

The belts that come with toddler robes are another matter worthy of mention, as they may present a choking and strangulation hazard.

Toddlers should always be supervised when wearing a belted robe to guard against such accidents and injuries.

The belt also provides an excellent opportunity for young hands to practice tying simple knots.

The thick terrycloth fabric is easy for young hands to grasp and tends to stay in place once securely knotted.

As with all garments for young children, parents should always opt for toddler bath robes that are non-flammable, for the sake of safety.

If crafted from flammable materials (particularly synthetics), the robes should be treated with a fire-retardant chemical.

The label on the robe will state this plainly; always check that garments are fire-resistant before allowing a child to wear them.
